SGV Memorial Day Programs

  1. Allied Veterans Council Memorial Day Program - The Allied Veterans Council will sponsor its annual Memorial Day Program on Monday, May 28, at 10 a.m., at Live Oak Memorial Park. Lt. Col. Charles Wiest, president of the Council, will be Master of Ceremonies. Mayors Rob Hammond, Monrovia; Mickey Segal, Arcadia, and Lois Gaston, Duarte, will welcome the public.The Monrovia High School band will play patriotic selections. The address will be given by 1st Lt. Robert Parry, an Iraq veteran. Wreaths will be placed at the Memorial by the organizational members of the Council. The 18th District Honor Guard of the American Legion will deliver the 21-Gun Salute in honor of all veterans.Weather permitting, the condor Squadron will fly over making its awesome tribute to all of our servicemen and women. The public is urged to attend to also pay honor to all of our military.

Sierra Madre Celebrates Memorial Day - On Mon., May 28 the VFW will host ceremonies at Pioneer Cemetery at 11 a.m. Following the ceremonies, sandwiches and drinks will be served at the Hart Park House in Memorial Park starting at 12:30 p.m. Then, activities are planned at the Veteran Photo Wall in Memorial Park with sandwiches and drinks being served at 2:10 p.m., ceremonies will begin at 3 p.m.
  3. L.A. County “Remembering Our Veterans and Their Families” Event - You are invited to the 10th annual “Remembering Our Veterans and Their Families - Past, Present and Future” event on Sat., May 26 at Arcadia County Park, 405 South Santa Anita Avenue, Arcadia.The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a special tribute to the Armed Forces at 11:30 a.m. Bring a duplicate copy of a military photo to be placed on the Wall of Remembrance.Hosted by Los Angeles County, this free event will feature skydivers; a fly over by WWII fighter planes; live music; free immunizations and health screenings; and employment, veterans and legal assistance information.   4. Memorial Day Remembrance Celebration Join with the Pasadena Senior Center to commemorate Memorial Day, on Mon., May 28. The Center, located at 85 East Holly Street, will pay tribute to our nations’ heroes with an afternoon celebration that begins at noon and includes lunch, entertainment and patriotic sing-along.Prior to the Pasadena Senior Center celebration the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 446 will begin Memorial Day observances with a special Vietnam Memorial Tribute, at 10:30 a.m. in Pasadena’s Memorial Park adjacent to the Center, on Raymond Avenue, between Walnut Avenue and Holly Street.The Pasadena Senior Center celebration will follow with a barbeque lunch that includes hot dogs, hamburgers, Cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, beverages and more. The cost for the Senior Center’s Memorial Day Barbeque and celebration will be $9, $6 for Center members. Prepaid reservations are required three working days in advance of this event.
